About This Event
Three back‑to‑back marathons across the Atherton Tablelands, from Kuranda to Cairns. A demanding trail‑and‑road challenge for seasoned runners, finishing with the iconic Cairns Marathon.
Course Description
Day 1 (Marathon 1) and Day 2 (Marathon 2) wind through lush rainforest trails and rugged dirt roads of the Atherton Tablelands, featuring over 1,300 m of climbing and steep descents. Day 3 (Cairns Marathon) follows a mostly flat, mixed‑surface route from the coastal town of Koah into Cairns, finishing on bitumen along the waterfront. Expect dramatic scenery – waterfalls, mountain vistas and tropical foliage – combined with technical footing and variable elevation. The Grand Slam links all three courses for a total of 126.6 km, testing endurance, navigation and recovery across three consecutive days.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The start line is in Kuranda village, accessed via the Kennedy Highway (A1) from Cairns (≈30 km). Free parking is available at the Kuranda Sports Ground; a $20 shuttle can take you to the start on Friday or Sunday. Public buses run from Cairns to Kuranda (route 550) with a 15‑minute walk to the start. Arrive at least one hour before the scheduled start to collect your bib and warm‑up.
Weather & What to Pack
July is winter in tropical north Queensland. Cairns typically sees daytime highs around 26 °C and overnight lows near 17 °C, with very low rainfall (≈1 mm). Expect warm, sunny mornings and comfortable evenings. Dress in light, breathable layers; a long‑sleeve shirt for early‑morning chill and a hat and sunscreen for sun protection. Hydration is still essential despite the mild temperatures.
