Course Description
The 5 km Fun Run starts on the iconic Cairns Esplanade, winding alongside the sparkling lagoon. Runners enjoy a flat, paved surface that hugs the waterfront, soaking up the morning sun before turning back the way they came. The route finishes under the official IRONMAN Finishers Arch in the Lagoon Car Park, offering a festive finish line with music and cheering crowds. The course is fully accessible, with no technical sections, making it ideal for families, beginners, and seasoned runners alike.
Getting There
The start line is on the Cairns Esplanade beside the lagoon. Free parking is available at the Lagoon Car Park (just off the Esplanade). Public buses run regularly to the Esplanade stop; alight at the Cairns Esplanade and walk a few metres to the start. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to collect your bib and warm up.

Weather & What to Pack
June is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, but Cairns stays tropical. Expect daytime highs around 27 °C and overnight lows near 18 °C, with moderate humidity and occasional light showers. Dress in lightweight, breathable layers, wear a hat and sunscreen, and bring a water bottle. A light jacket for early‑morning chill is advisable.

How do I register for the Charity Fun Run?
Registration is closed for 2027, but you can sign up for updates on the IRONMAN website. When it reopens, you’ll pay $30 for adults or $24 for juniors, inclusive of all fees.
What time should I arrive on race day?
Check‑in opens at 6:00 AM on Friday, with the race starting at 7:35 AM. Arriving by 7:00 AM gives you enough time to collect your bib, use the restroom, and warm up.
Is the course wheelchair‑accessible?
Yes. The Esplanade is a smooth, paved pathway suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The finish line is at the Lagoon Car Park, which is also level.
Can I bring my own water and snacks?
You may carry a personal water bottle. On‑course hydration stations are provided, and post‑race refreshments are available near the finish arch.
What should I wear for the race?
Wear breathable running shoes, moisture‑wicking clothing, a hat, and sunscreen. A light jacket is useful for the cooler early‑morning temperatures.
