Course Description
The Wings for Life World Run Melbourne is a unique global charity event where participants run, walk, or roll from Albert Park using the official app. Unlike traditional races, there's no predetermined finish line—you keep going until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you 30 minutes after the global start. Choose your own route through Melbourne's streets, parks, or trails, with real-time GPS tracking connecting you to thousands of participants worldwide. The in-app audio experience provides live race updates, motivational messages, and personal cheers from your team captain to keep you motivated. Your distance travelled is your personal achievement, whether that's 5km or 50km, making this accessible for all fitness levels.
Quick Facts
Getting There
As an App Run Event, you can start from anywhere in Melbourne. Many participants gather at Albert Park for the community atmosphere, which is easily accessible via tram routes 96 and 12 from the city. If meeting at Albert Park, street parking is available around the lake, or use the South Melbourne Market car park nearby. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the 7:00 PM start to set up the app and join fellow runners.
Weather & What to Pack
Early May in Melbourne brings pleasant autumn conditions, ideal for running. Expect temperatures between 10-18°C, with crisp evenings perfect for the 7:00 PM start. The evening timing means you'll likely run through sunset and into twilight, so bring a headlamp or reflective gear for visibility. Pack layers as temperatures will drop after dark—a light jacket for warm-up that you can leave with supporters is ideal. Hydration is still important, so plan your route to pass water fountains or carry fluids.

Can I run anywhere or do I need to be at Albert Park?
You can run absolutely anywhere using the Wings for Life World Run app! Albert Park is listed as a community gathering point where local participants meet for the social atmosphere, but you're free to choose your own route from your home, local park, or favourite running path.
What equipment do I need?
You'll need a smartphone with the Wings for Life World Run app installed, GPS enabled, and a full battery (or portable charger). Since the race is at 7:00 PM, bring a headlamp or wear reflective clothing for safety. Wear comfortable running shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
Is this suitable for walkers or wheelchair users?
Absolutely! The event welcomes runners, walkers, and wheelchair users of all abilities. The race motto is 'run, roll and walk for those who can't.' You'll keep moving until the Catcher Car catches you, regardless of your pace, making it inclusive for everyone.
Where does my entry fee go?
100% of all entry fees and donations go directly to spinal cord injury research through the Wings for Life Foundation. Since 2014, the event has raised over €60.5 million, funding 344+ research projects worldwide, including breakthrough treatments currently in clinical trials.
