Course Description

The Mother's Day Classic Canberra course starts at the iconic Rond Terrace on Parkes Way, taking participants through the heart of Australia's capital. The 4km route winds through the scenic parliamentary precinct, offering views of Lake Burley Griffin and Canberra's landmark buildings. The flat, paved course follows wide pathways alongside the lake, making it accessible for participants of all ages and abilities. Whether you're walking with family, pushing a pram, or running for a personal best, the course provides a beautiful backdrop for this meaningful event. The finish line at Rond Terrace welcomes all participants with a celebratory atmosphere and commemorative medallion.

Getting There

Rond Terrace is located on Parkes Way in the parliamentary triangle, easily accessible from all areas of Canberra. Street parking is available around the parliamentary precinct, though arrive early on Mother's Day as spaces fill quickly. Public transport options include ACTION bus routes to Parliament House and the National Gallery. Consider carpooling with friends or family. Aim to arrive at least 45 minutes before the start time for registration, warm-up, and pre-race festivities.

Weather & What to Pack

May in Canberra brings crisp autumn mornings with temperatures typically ranging from 2-16°C. Expect cool, dry conditions with possible morning fog clearing to sunny skies. Frost is common, so dress in layers you can remove as you warm up. The low humidity makes for comfortable running conditions, though the cold start means long sleeves or a light jacket are recommended. Sun protection is still important as UV levels can be moderate. Bring a warm layer for after the event. Hydration is provided, but the cooler weather means you'll need less than summer events.
