Course Description
Starting from iconic Manly Beach near the Surf Club, the Manly Rotary Fun Run offers three distinct course options. The challenging 10km route features two significant climbs up to North Head, rewarding runners with stunning coastal views through picturesque headland scenery and North Head National Park. The 5km course includes a couple of short hill climbs on the outward leg to elevate your heart rate, whilst the 2km option combines a short steep hill with beautiful beachfront running past the Bower. All courses showcase Manly's spectacular ocean-side setting, with the flatter sections suitable for wheelchair users and prams, whilst the hilly terrain provides a genuine test for those seeking a challenge.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Manly Beach is accessible via a scenic 30-minute ferry from Circular Quay, with the start line just a short walk from Manly Wharf. If driving, limited street parking is available around Manly, or use the council car park on Belgrave Street (fees apply). Public transport is highly recommended. Arrive at least 45 minutes before your start time to collect your race number and warm up. The ferry journey itself is a fantastic way to begin your race day experience.
Weather & What to Pack
Mid-April in Sydney typically brings mild autumn conditions, with average temperatures ranging from 15-23°C. Expect pleasant running weather with lower humidity than summer months, though mornings can be crisp near the coast. There's a moderate chance of rain, so check forecasts beforehand. The coastal location means potential for refreshing sea breezes. Dress in lightweight layers you can shed, wear sunscreen as UV levels remain moderate, and ensure adequate hydration particularly for the hillier courses. Early starters may appreciate arm warmers or a light vest.
Frequently Asked Questions
What discounts are available for children and families?
Kids 10 and under receive 50% off 10km and 5km entries (25% off 2km), whilst juniors aged 11-17 get 25% off 10km and 5km distances. This makes it an affordable family event with distances suitable for all ages.
Are there time limits for each distance?
Yes - the 10km has a 2 hour 15 minute time cap, whilst the 5km has a 1 hour 45 minute time limit. These generous cut-offs accommodate both runners and walkers, making the event accessible to various fitness levels.
How does the charity fundraising work?
All entry fees go directly to the Rotary Club of Manly volunteers who donate 100% of proceeds to local charities. Teams of 10+ participants receive 100% cash back, and the largest charity team wins an additional $1,000 donation. Since 2010, over $2.25 million has been raised for Northern Beaches charities.
Can I use a pram or wheelchair on the course?
Yes - the course includes flat, wheelchair and pram-friendly sections, particularly along the beachfront. However, be aware that the 5km and especially the 10km routes include hills that may be challenging with wheels. The 2km is the most accessible option.
