Course Description

The Dimboola Dash takes place on a stunning 7km stretch of newly constructed trails and established walking tracks alongside the picturesque Wimmera River, between Dimboola township and the Lochiel Rest Area. The course is an out-and-back format with the marathon consisting of three laps. Runners will experience natural riverbank terrain, requiring trail shoes rather than road runners. The course is narrow in sections, encouraging a friendly, patient atmosphere amongst competitors. Multiple drink stations are positioned at the 3.5km mark, the 7km turnaround point, and at the start line. The flat, scenic route showcases the beautiful Wimmera River environment, though the trail surface and narrower sections mean this may not be ideal for PB attempts. It's a genuine trail running experience in regional Victoria's stunning countryside.

Dimboola is located in central Victoria, approximately 330km northwest of Melbourne via the Western Highway. The race starts and finishes behind the Dimboola Library in the town centre. Street parking is available throughout the town, with ample free parking options. The course extends along the riverbank trail towards the Lochiel Rest Area on the edge of the Western Highway. Plan to arrive at least 30-45 minutes before your race start time for registration, bag drop, and warm-up, particularly if collecting your race bib on the day.

Weather & What to Pack

April in Victoria typically brings mild autumn conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from 12-22°C. Morning starts can be crisp, around 8-12°C, warming up through mid-morning. The region experiences moderate humidity and the possibility of light showers, though April is generally drier than winter months. Dress in layers that can be removed as you warm up. Trail conditions may be affected by recent rain, so waterproof trail shoes are recommended. Hydration remains important even in cooler weather - carry water for longer distances and utilise the drink stations provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I collect my race bib before race day?

Yes, bibs and pre-purchased t-shirts can be collected on Friday 10th April (1pm-6pm) at The Athlete's Foot in Horsham, or Saturday 11th April (2pm-4pm) at The Imaginarium in Dimboola. Friends or family can pick up your bib for you.

What should I wear for the trail course?

Trail shoes are essential - leave your road running shoes at home. The riverbank trails can be uneven and may be affected by weather. Dress in layers for the cool April morning start, and consider wearing a hydration vest or belt for marathon and half marathon distances.

Are there cut-off times for the events?

There are no official cut-off times for any distance. However, marathon runners who take more than 3 hours for the first half will be encouraged to retire and receive a half marathon medal and results placement instead.

What do I get as a participant?

All finishers (marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km) receive a Dimboola Dash medal. Trophies are awarded to the top three males and females in marathon, half marathon, and 10km run categories, and first male and female in the 5km. Free fruit is provided at the finish line.

Can parents run with children in the Kids' Dash?

Absolutely! The 2km Kids' Dash is a free, untimed event for children under 12. Parents, older siblings, and friends are welcome to run alongside. Children can run, walk, hop, or dance - it's a pressure-free celebration of physical activity. No prams, strollers, or dogs permitted.
