About This Event
Delirious WEST multi-day adventure running event through the forests of WA's South West.
Course Description
Delirious WEST takes you on an unforgettable journey along Western Australia's legendary Bibbulmun Track from Northcliffe to Albany. The 200-miler covers 340km over five days, whilst the 100-miler tackles 170km over 64 hours. Experience jaw-dropping ocean cliffs, relentless sand dunes, towering karri forests reaching skyward, and pristine squeaky beaches. The course includes technical sections through the famous Tree Top Walk, challenging coastal terrain, and remote wilderness trails rarely visited by humans. With 20 fully stocked aid stations (10 for 100-milers) and designated sleep stations, you'll traverse some of Australia's most spectacular and demanding ultra-running terrain. This is widely recognised as one of the top 10 hardest 200-milers in the world.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The 200-miler starts in Northcliffe (400km south of Perth), whilst the 100-miler begins at the Tree Top Walk. Both finish at Frenchman's Bay Road in Albany. Northcliffe is accessible via car from Perth (approximately 4.5 hours drive south). Crew and support vehicles can access designated aid stations along the route using crew driving routes detailed in the race manual. Participants should arrange accommodation in Northcliffe before the start and Albany for the finish. Arrive the day before your start time to collect race materials and attend the briefing.
Weather & What to Pack
April in Western Australia's south-west brings mild autumn conditions perfect for ultra-running. Expect average temperatures of 11-22°C in Northcliffe and 14-21°C in Albany, though conditions can vary significantly from coastal sections to forest inland. Rainfall averages 70-72mm across 8-11 days, so waterproof gear is essential. Nights can be cool, particularly at sleep stations. The coastal sections may experience strong winds and sea spray. Pack layers for temperature regulation, sun protection for exposed beach sections, and quality wet weather gear. Hydration remains critical despite cooler temperatures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need qualification to enter?
There are no formal qualification requirements. Ultra Series Australia's philosophy is that if you're delirious enough to consider entering, you're delirious enough to enter. However, you must be at least 18 years old and realistically assess your ability to complete 100 or 200 miles within the cutoff times.
What are the cutoff times?
The 200-miler has a 101-hour cutoff (finishing Sunday 3:00 PM) with mandatory sleep station departure times at Walpole (36hr), Peaceful Bay (51hr), Denmark (75hr), and Cosy Corner (94hr). The 100-miler has a 64-hour cutoff (Sunday 11:00 AM) with sleep station departures at Denmark (36hr) and Cosy Corner (56hr).
Can I have crew support and pacers?
Yes, crew support is permitted at designated crew-accessible aid stations. Pacers are allowed and must carry the same mandatory gear as runners. Detailed crew driving routes, Google map drop pins, and aid station protocols are provided in the race manual and crew info section.
What's provided at aid stations?
There are 20 aid stations (10 for 100-milers) offering water, Tailwind, Coke, and a variety of sweet and savoury meals, plus tea and coffee. Menus vary by station, so runners with dietary requirements should pack preferred foods in drop bags. Sleep stations provide rest facilities at key points along the course.
What mandatory gear must I carry?
All runners and pacers must carry mandatory safety equipment throughout the event. You must also have the GPX file loaded on the Gaia Maps app on your mobile phone. A complete mandatory gear list is detailed in the race manual. Additionally, you'll need to bring a pair of running shoes to donate at the Jeff Hansen memorial tree at the finish line.
