Course Description

The Villawood Summer Series Race 4 takes place at Canterbury Park in Eaglehawk, featuring a unique triathlon format. The race begins with a pool swim at Canterbury Park, offering controlled conditions perfect for swimmers of all abilities. Athletes then transition to a challenging bike loop that winds through the quiet rural roads surrounding Bendigo, with rolling hills testing your climbing strength and bike handling skills. The final leg is a flat, fast run around the scenic Lake Neangar, where you can dig deep and finish strong. This course combines technical variety with accessible terrain, making it ideal for both newcomers and experienced triathletes looking to test themselves in regional Victoria.

Getting There

Canterbury Park is located at 2 Simpsons Road, Eaglehawk, approximately 6km northwest of Bendigo CBD. Take Sailors Gully Road from Bendigo, turning onto Simpsons Road. Free parking is typically available at the venue. For those travelling from Melbourne, take the Calder Freeway (M79) north to Bendigo, approximately 2 hours. Arrive at least 45-60 minutes before your race start to allow time for registration, transition setup, and warm-up.

Weather & What to Pack

Mid-March in central Victoria typically offers pleasant autumn conditions, with temperatures ranging from 12-24°C. Mornings can be crisp, warming up nicely by mid-race. Expect moderate humidity and generally stable conditions, though occasional autumn showers are possible. The pool swim provides controlled temperature, but prepare for variable conditions on the bike and run. Bring sun protection, as UV levels remain moderate. Layer your transition gear to accommodate temperature changes, and ensure adequate hydration despite the cooler season.
