Course Description
Set against the stunning backdrop of Wollongong Boat Harbour, this aquathon offers a unique swim-run challenge in one of Australia's most scenic coastal locations. The swim legs take place in the protected harbour waters, providing relatively calm conditions for swimmers of all abilities. Athletes transition directly from the harbour onto the run course, which follows the picturesque coastal paths around the harbour precinct and nearby parklands. The flat, fast run routes are perfect for maintaining momentum after your swim. With multiple distance options from kids' events to the challenging Long Aqua, there's something for everyone. The spectator-friendly course allows supporters to watch both the swim and run legs, creating an energetic atmosphere throughout the morning.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Wollongong Harbour is located on Cliff Road in central Wollongong, approximately 90 minutes south of Sydney. Street parking is available around the harbour area, though expect high demand on the public holiday. Wilson Parking operates several car parks within walking distance. If travelling by train, Wollongong Station is a 15-minute walk to the harbour. Arrive by 6:15 AM for bib collection, with first events starting at 8:00 AM. Allow extra time for parking on Australia Day.
Weather & What to Pack
Late January in Wollongong typically brings warm summer conditions with temperatures ranging from 19-27°C. Expect sunshine and moderate humidity, with water temperatures around 21-23°C. The morning start times help beat the heat, but you'll still need sun protection for the run leg. Pack sunscreen, a hat or visor for after your swim, and ensure you're well-hydrated before the race. The coastal location usually provides a refreshing sea breeze. Check the forecast closer to race day, as occasional summer showers can occur, though water temperatures remain comfortable year-round.
