Course Description

Race 3 of the Northern Beaches Triathlon Series takes place at the spectacular North Head within Sydney Harbour National Park. The course features a unique 2km run from Collins Beach swim exit to the transition area at North Fort—a distinctive element of Warringah Triathlon Club events. Cyclists enjoy the recently resurfaced North Scenic Drive with minimal traffic and picturesque harbour views, whilst the flat, fast bike and run courses suit athletes of all abilities. The swim takes place in the sheltered waters of Collins Beach, followed by the long T1 run through the national park. Both the bike and run courses are predominantly flat, making this an ideal event for those chasing personal bests or experiencing multisport racing for the first time.

Getting There

North Head is located at the northern tip of Manly. Drive via Scenic Drive to the North Fort area where transition is located. Parking is available within Sydney Harbour National Park. Public transport users can catch a ferry to Manly Wharf, then take the 135 bus towards North Head or arrange a 10-minute taxi ride. Arrive by 5:30 AM for check-in, as transition closes at 5:50 AM and you'll need 30 minutes to walk down to the swim start at Collins Beach.

Weather & What to Pack

January in Sydney brings warm summer conditions with average temperatures ranging from 19-27°C. Expect high humidity and strong sunshine, particularly after 7 AM when UV levels peak. The coastal location at North Head typically offers refreshing sea breezes, though mornings can be calm and warm. Pack high-SPF sunscreen and apply generously before and after the swim. Bring a hat and sunglasses for post-race. Hydrate well in the days leading up to the event, and take advantage of the water stations on course during the bike and run legs.
