Quick Facts
Getting There
Optus Stadium Park is located in Burswood, just east of Perth CBD. The venue is easily accessible via public transport, with Burswood Station (Stadium) directly serving the area. Ample parking is available at Optus Stadium car parks, though arrive early as this is a popular event. If driving, allow extra time for parking and walking to the start area. Arrive at least 30-45 minutes before the 7:00 PM start to collect your race essentials and warm up.
Weather & What to Pack
Perth in May offers ideal running conditions with mild autumn weather. Expect temperatures ranging from 12-22°C, with the evening start meaning you'll likely run in cooling conditions around 15-18°C. May is generally dry with low humidity, making it comfortable for sustained effort. The sun sets around 5:30 PM, so you'll be running in twilight and darkness. Dress in layers you can shed, wear reflective clothing for safety, and stay hydrated throughout. The mild conditions are perfect for pushing your distance before the Catcher Car arrives.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Catcher Car format work?
There's no fixed finish line. Everyone starts at 7:00 PM, then a Virtual Catcher Car starts 30 minutes later at 14 km/h, gradually increasing speed. You run via the app until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you—that's your final distance. The last runners might cover 40+ kilometres!
Do I need to register in advance?
Yes, download the Wings for Life World Run app to register and pay the $28 entry fee. You'll use the same app to participate on race day. The app tracks your distance and shows when the Catcher Car is approaching. Complete the in-app checklist before race day.
Can wheelchair participants join?
Absolutely! The course is fully accessible for wheelchair participants, with smooth, flat paths throughout Burswood Park. Wheelchair racers compete alongside runners, and the format works the same—run or roll until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you.
What happens to my entry fee?
100% of all entry fees and donations go directly to spinal cord research projects through the Wings for Life Foundation. Every dollar helps fund research to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. You're literally running for those who can't.
What should I bring on race day?
Bring your smartphone with the Wings for Life app fully charged, comfortable running shoes, reflective clothing for visibility, and a headlamp or torch since you'll be running after dark. Refreshment stations will be available along the route. Dress in layers as it cools down in the evening.
