Course Description
The Alcoa-Mandurah State Interclub Championship features a classic sprint triathlon course starting at the Old Yacht Club in Halls Head. Athletes begin with a 750-metre swim in the sheltered waters near Doddies Beach, perfect for early summer conditions. The 20-kilometre bike leg takes competitors through Mandurah's coastal roads, offering flat, fast riding with scenic views of the estuary and canal systems. The final 5-kilometre run brings athletes back to the race precinct along waterfront paths. As Western Australia's premier club versus club championship, the course is designed for competitive racing whilst remaining accessible for age group athletes. The Halls Head location has hosted this prestigious event for almost 30 years, providing a well-established race environment.

Weather & What to Pack
Mid-January in Mandurah typically brings warm summer conditions with temperatures ranging from 18-32°C. Expect sunny skies with moderate humidity and sea breezes developing through the morning. Early 7:10 AM start helps athletes avoid peak heat during the bike and run legs. Water temperature is usually comfortable at 20-22°C, though wetsuits may be optional depending on conditions. Apply sunscreen before the race, wear a hat during transitions, and ensure adequate hydration from the evening before. The coastal location can experience wind changes, particularly affecting the bike leg.

What are the wave start times and how are they organised?
Wave starts run from 7:10 AM to 7:37 AM, separated by age group and gender. Females start from 7:10 AM (with youngest age groups first), followed by males from 7:25 AM. Each wave is assigned a specific swim cap colour. Check the athlete guide for your exact wave time.
When does registration close and what do I need to collect?
Online registration is strongly recommended before race day. On-site registration opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 6:45 AM. You'll collect your race number and timing chip at registration. The timing chip must be worn on your left ankle throughout the race.
How does the club scoring work for the Rob Pickard Trophy and Presidents Cup?
Points are awarded based on finishing position within each gender - first place receives points equal to the total number of finishers in that gender, decreasing by one for each subsequent place. The Rob Pickard Trophy goes to the club with the most accumulated points. The Presidents Cup is awarded to clubs with 20+ finishers based on highest average score per competitor.
