Course Description
The Tim Gates Classic follows scenic routes along Victoria's Great Ocean Road coastline from Fairhaven SLSC. Both the 10km and 5km courses are clearly marked with accurate measurements and electronic timing. Runners experience stunning coastal views along sealed and beach paths, with the course showcasing the natural beauty of the Surf Coast region. The race takes advantage of the summer evening light with a 4pm start, allowing participants to enjoy cooler temperatures and spectacular ocean vistas. The courses are designed to accommodate both competitive runners and casual walkers, with the 5km option particularly welcoming for families and beginners wanting to honour Tim Gates' memory whilst supporting the local surf lifesaving club.
Getting There
Fairhaven SLSC is located at the corner of Great Ocean Road and Yarringa Road, Fairhaven (Melway Ref: 511 C10). The venue is approximately 20km south-west of Geelong along the Great Ocean Road. On-site parking is available at the surf club and surrounding streets. Plan to arrive by 3:30 PM to collect your race bib and t-shirt, with the race briefing scheduled for 3:45 PM. Public transport options are limited in this coastal area, so driving or carpooling is recommended.

Early January on Victoria's Surf Coast typically brings warm summer conditions with temperatures ranging from 15-25°C. The late afternoon 4pm start helps avoid the midday heat. Register before 14 December 2025 to receive a personalised racing bib with your name on it. Late registrations are accepted but may not include personalised bibs or guaranteed t-shirt availability.
