Course Description

The Wallygrunta courses start and finish at the Walyunga Pool Carpark, threading through the rolling hills, eucalyptus forest and sandstone outcrops of Walyunga National Park. The Green Course (≈4‑6 km) offers gentle climbs and is perfect for newcomers and families. The Blue Course (≈9‑12 km) adds steeper sections and longer single‑track, while the Black Course (≈12‑16 km) challenges experienced runners with sustained climbs, technical footing and varied terrain. Aid stations appear at ~2.7 km (Green), ~6.3 km (Blue) and at ~6.3 km and ~13.1 km (Black), stocked with water, drinks and snacks. Expect stunning bush views, occasional creek crossings and plenty of shade breaks.

Getting There

Enter the park via Great Northern Highway, turn onto Walyunga Road and follow signs to the Walyunga National Park entry. Parking and the start/finish area are at the Walyunga Pool Carpark. Arrive early for the 6:00 am check‑in and consider car‑pooling with other runners. For detailed parking or public transport options, check the official event website.

Weather & What to Pack

January is summer in Western Australia, with typical daytime highs of 25‑35 °C, plenty of sunshine and occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Wear lightweight, breathable clothing, a hat and sunscreen, and carry at least 500 ml of water (more is advisable). Hydration is essential in the heat, so use the on‑course refill stations.
