About This Event
The Cooleman Clip is part of the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Series, a friendly winter series of trail runs around Canberra's nature parks. Choose from short, middle or longer distance courses suited to all abilities.
Course Description
The Cooleman Clip is one of five events in the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Series, run on the trails of Canberra's nature parks and reserves close to the city. Each event offers three distance options, a short course of around 2km, a middle course of about 5km and a longer course of roughly 9.6km, so runners of every ability can take part. Expect a mix of formed trails and natural single track winding through bushland, with some rolling hills typical of the Canberra ridgelines. The friendly, low-key atmosphere makes it ideal for newcomers to trail running as well as series regulars chasing championship points. Please note dogs are not permitted, as several courses pass through no-dogs areas of the reserves.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The Cooleman Clip starts and finishes at Chapman Oval in the Canberra suburb of Chapman, near Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve. There is parking around the oval and nearby streets. On-the-day registration typically opens around 9am and closes about 15 minutes before the 10am start, so allow time to park, register and warm up. Check the official website for exact start area details.
Weather & What to Pack
Mid-July is the heart of a Canberra winter, with cold, often frosty mornings and daytime temperatures usually between 1 and 12 degrees Celsius. Frost and fog are common early, and trails may be muddy or slippery underfoot. Dress in warm layers you can shed once running, including gloves and a beanie for the start, and choose trail shoes with good grip. A waterproof jacket is wise if showers are forecast.
