Course Description

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Hanging Rock in the Macedon Ranges, the Run The Rock course weaves through a mix of well‑maintained trails, quiet forest paths and sealed roads. Runners start at the Hanging Rock Racecourse, follow a scenic loop around the base of the iconic granite formation, and enjoy sweeping views of native bushland and open farmland. The half‑marathon covers 22 km of rolling hills and gentle climbs, while the 13.5 km and 5 km routes offer shorter but equally picturesque loops. The Kids Dash provides a safe 2 km circuit for the youngest participants. Along the way, K‑markers and drink stations keep you on track, and the route is designed to showcase the region’s wildlife and geological wonders.

Getting There

The race is based at the Hanging Rock Racecourse in Woodend, VIC, just off the Calder Freeway (M79) between Melbourne and Bendigo. Parking and public transport options are provided on the event website. Arrive early to collect your bib and explore the event village before the first start at 8:15 am.

Weather & What to Pack

In March the Macedon Ranges enjoy crisp autumn weather. Average highs are around 15 °C with lows near 7 °C, and occasional showers are common. Expect cool mornings and mild afternoons, so dress in layers – a moisture‑wicking base, a light fleece or jacket, and a hat for sun or chill. Bring a water bottle and consider a waterproof top in case of rain.
