Course Description

The Coastal Quest starts with a swim lap in the clear waters off Hillarys beach, followed by a 750‑metre (or 300‑metre for Bolt) ocean swim. Athletes then transition to a multi‑lap bike circuit that winds along the coastal road network, offering gentle sea breezes and views of the Indian Ocean. The run finishes with an out‑and‑back course along the park’s paved paths and beachfront promenade, featuring soft sand sections for the TinLids distance. The course is flat to gently rolling, well‑marked, and designed for fast, enjoyable racing while showcasing the natural beauty of Perth’s northern coastline.

Getting There

The race is held at Whitford Nodes Park in the coastal suburb of Hillarys, Western Australia. Parking and public transport options are detailed on the official event website, so be sure to review those details and plan to arrive early to collect your race pack and access transition.

Weather & What to Pack

December is summer in Western Australia, with typical daytime temperatures ranging from 25 °C to 35 °C and plenty of sunshine, tempered by occasional sea breezes. Expect low humidity and clear skies. Wear breathable, moisture‑wicking clothing, a well‑fitted swim cap, and a hat or visor for sun protection. Hydration is essential – carry water bottles on the bike and use the on‑site refreshment stations.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I register for the Coastal Quest?

Online registrations are currently open. The website does not list a closing date, so check the official registration page for the latest deadline and any late‑entry fees.

What time should I arrive on race day?

Transition opens at 5:45 am for most distances (5:45 am for TinLids and 5:45‑6:55 am for Sprint, Aqua Bolt, Bolt, Aquabike and Duathlon). Arriving early to collect your race pack and rack your bike is recommended.

What gear is mandatory on race day?

All participants must wear their race bib on the bike and run, the wave‑specific swim cap, a timing chip band on the left ankle, a bike ID sticker on the top tube, and three helmet stickers (left, right, front). TinLids entrants do not receive a timing chip. Refer to the registration pack instructions for full details.

How does the Sprint Team Relay work?

Teams of two or three athletes share the Sprint distance. Each member completes a leg, tags the next teammate in the transition area, and swaps the single timing chip to record the team’s overall time. The entry fee covers the whole team.

Is there a bag‑drop service?

Yes. A bag‑drop area is located in the recovery zone at the finish. Use the tear‑off tab on your race bib to label your bag. Staff will hold your bag until you collect it after the race.
