Course Description

The race takes place on the 800 m harness racing oval at Kilmore Racing Club, a flat, firm sand‑and‑dirt track that makes up a 1‑mile loop (two laps). There are no hills or trails – just the oval and a clock that tightens the cutoff by ten seconds each round. The venue sits 55 minutes north of Melbourne CBD and offers a full bar, restaurant, indoor and outdoor viewing areas, and on‑site toilets and showers. Spectators can watch from the grandstand while athletes set up camp in the centre of the track between rounds. The format pushes you from a brisk walking pace in the first round to increasingly faster paces, testing endurance and strategy.

Getting There

The event is held at Kilmore Racing Club in the town of Kilmore, Victoria, about 55 minutes north of Melbourne’s CBD. Free on‑site parking is available. For public transport options, check the club’s website or local bus and train services. Arrive early to set up your camp and get ready for the first round.

Weather & What to Pack

In July, Kilmore experiences winter weather with daytime highs typically between 5 °C and 15 °C and cooler evenings. Expect possible light rain and higher humidity, so the track can be damp. Dress in layered, moisture‑wicking clothing, a warm jacket or fleece, hat and gloves for early rounds. Bring a water bottle – even in cooler weather you’ll need hydration, especially as the event can run up to nine hours.
