Course Description

The race follows the celebrated Surf Coast Walk, beginning on the golden sands of Torquay and winding along the shoreline to the Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club. Runners tackle a short dash over Bells Beach, then climb the dramatic cliffs of Point Addis and Anglesea, before descending to the historic Split Point lighthouse at Aireys Inlet. The trail is a mix of well‑maintained single‑track, beach sections and shaded forest paths through the Otway foothills, offering spectacular ocean views without technical difficulty. Aid stations provide water and electrolytes, and the finish line is at the beachfront club where a post‑race celebration awaits.

Getting There

The start line is in Torquay near the Surf Coast Highway; follow signs to the Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club parking area (free). From there, a shuttle runs to the Fairhaven finish. Limited on‑site parking is available at the Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club (small fee). Public transport: V/Line trains to Geelong then a local bus to Torquay. Arrive at least 90 minutes before the start to allow time for registration and warm‑up.

Weather & What to Pack

June is winter in Victoria, so expect cool to cold conditions – typically 5‑15 °C with occasional rain and brisk winds along the coast. Dress in layers: a moisture‑wicking base, insulated mid‑layer and a wind‑proof jacket. A hat, gloves and waterproof socks are advisable. Hydration is still important; carry a handheld bottle and use aid stations for water and electrolytes.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does registration close and can I still register on race day?

Early bird pricing ended in November 2025. Regular entry closed 22 May 2026, with late entry until 19 June 2026. On‑the‑day entries are accepted from 20 June 2026, subject to availability and a higher fee.

What is the difference between the solo Marathon and the Team Marathon?

The solo Marathon is a single runner covering the full 42 km. The Team Marathon pairs two runners, each completing roughly half the distance (≈21 km) before handing over to the teammate.

Is the course technical or do I need special trail gear?

The course is non‑technical with well‑maintained tracks, beach sections and gentle forest trails. Standard trail shoes with good grip are sufficient; no technical climbing or rope work is required.

Are there aid stations and what can I expect at the finish?

Aid stations are placed roughly every 10 km offering water, sports drinks and fruit. The finish is at the Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club, where you can cool down, collect your medal and join the post‑race celebration at the Aireys Pub.

Can I transfer my entry to another distance or runner?

Yes – entries can be transferred to another runner or changed to a different distance up to the deadline. Use the link in your confirmation email to edit your entry.
