Course Description

Both distances follow the Bellarine Rail Trail, a former railway line linking Queenscliff and Drysdale. The 34 km option runs from Queenscliff Railway Station out to Drysdale Station and back, while the 17 km course starts at Drysdale and finishes at Queenscliff. The trail is wide, well‑marked and mostly unsealed, offering smooth gravel underfoot, with the final 4.5 km into Queenscliff on sealed road. Runners enjoy scenic coastal and countryside views, with only a few road and rail crossings to negotiate. As a non‑competitive training run, the course is relatively traffic‑free and ideal for those preparing for the Geelong Running Festival or Melbourne Marathon.

Getting There

Participants gather at Queenscliff Railway Station on Symonds Street in the historic seaside town of Queenscliff, VIC. The venue provides access to the Bellarine Rail Trail start/finish. For parking, public transport options, and detailed directions, please consult the official event website. Arriving early will give you time to check‑in and warm‑up before the 8:30 AM start.

Weather & What to Pack

August is winter in Victoria, so expect cool temperatures ranging from 5 °C to 15 °C, with a chance of light rain and occasional breezy conditions. Morning mist is common along the coastal trail. Dress in layers—thermal base, a breathable mid‑layer, and a wind‑proof jacket. A hat and gloves can help on chilly mornings, and waterproof shoes are advisable. Keep hydrated, but you won’t need large amounts of water in the cooler weather.
