Course Description

Pemby Trail Fest is a three-day trail running festival based at Pemberton District High School's Event Village on Burma Road, deep in WA's Karri forest country. Friday's 7km Blue Course night run winds through illuminated forest single-track. Saturday brings the festival's biggest day: the 50km Double Black ultra marathon (from 6:15am, with a turnaround near Grays Road around the 27km mark), plus 22km Black, 10km Blue and 5km Green courses and a Kids Fun Run. Sunday mirrors the format with a 21km Black half marathon, 10km Blue and 5km Green courses, and another Kids Fun Run. Courses use rolling single-track through karri and jarrah forest, with aid stations along the way. Vehicle access on course is restricted to event and emergency crews, keeping the trails genuinely trail-only.

Getting There

The Event Village is Pemberton District High School, Burma Road, Pemberton. On-site parking is limited, and organisers encourage walking from Pemberton town where possible. The Village opens ahead of each day's races – Friday from 5:45pm, Saturday from 6am and Sunday from 8am – so allow time to park, walk in and check in before your start.

Weather & What to Pack

Late October is spring in WA's Southern Forests, and Pemberton runs noticeably cooler and wetter than Perth. Expect mild days around 15–22°C, with cool mornings and evenings closer to 8–12°C for the Friday night run. Rain showers are common this time of year in the karri forest, so pack a light waterproof layer alongside sun protection for the middle of the day. Trails can be muddy or slippery after rain – trail shoes with good grip are worth the investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for a specific distance?

Register via the Perth Trail Series website (perthtrailseries.com.au/event/pemby-trail-fest-2026). Choose your day and course – Friday's 7km night run, or the 5km/10km/22km/50km Saturday and 5km/10km/21km Sunday options – or take the Multi Day entry and pick your distance for each day.

What mandatory gear do I need to carry?

The event's own guide doesn't publish a single mandatory kit list online – it notes runners must carry required items but leaves specifics to the Event Brief email sent the Wednesday before the festival. Its Recommended Gear page suggests trail shoes, a hydration pack, nutrition, sun protection and basic first-aid items as a sensible starting point, especially for the longer courses.

Can I collect my race kit the day before my race?

Yes, for the Saturday Double Black Ultra: check-in and kit collection is Friday evening from 5:45pm to 6:30pm. Runners in the other Saturday and Sunday courses collect their kit on the morning of their own race at the Event Village.

Are there aid stations and medical support on the course?

Yes. The Double Black Ultra has staffed aid stations on course (for example, one near the 31km mark), and a first-aid team is on standby at the Event Village and key aid points across all three days.

Is there a kids' event and what distance is it?

Yes – a Kids Fun Run (roughly 3–5km) runs on both Saturday and Sunday for $25, alongside a discounted Green Course entry for kids/teens/under-18s who want to run the full 5km.
