About This Event

Australia's longest-held running turkey handicap race. Predict your 5km finish time, run without a watch, and win based on accuracy — not speed. Open to all ages and abilities at Adelaide's Park 20 Parklands.

Course Description

The course follows a two-lap, 2.5km circuit along the sealed paths of Park 20 Parklands — one of Adelaide's beautiful inner-city parklands. Starting and finishing at the Adelaide Harriers Clubrooms, the flat, accessible route winds through tree-lined paths in a relaxed park setting, making it ideal for all fitness levels. The gentle terrain means you can focus less on effort and more on judging your pace — because in the Turkey Handicap format, it's your ability to predict your finishing time, not your speed, that determines the winner. A welcoming, community atmosphere surrounds the event from start to finish.

Weather & What to Pack

June in Adelaide is mid-winter, with cool to cold conditions typical on race day. Expect temperatures ranging from around 8°C to 15°C, with the possibility of light showers or overcast skies. Wind chill can make it feel cooler, so dress in layers you can shed before the start. A light long-sleeve top, jacket, and gloves are recommended. The flat course means minimal exertion variation, so stay warm during the pre-race wait.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Turkey Handicap format work?

Before the race, you nominate your expected finish time for the 5km course. You then run without looking at a watch or clock. The winner is the person whose actual finish time is closest to their predicted time — so accuracy and self-knowledge beat raw speed every time.

Do I need to be a member of Adelaide Harriers to enter?

No, the event is open to everyone. It's a family-friendly fun day welcoming runners of all abilities, club members and non-members alike.

How do I enter and what does it cost?

Enter online via the RevSport link on the Adelaide Harriers website. Early Bird entry is $15 (by 1 June), Standard online entry is $20 (closes noon Sunday 7 June), and On the Day entry is $25. Race bibs are collected on the morning from 8:30 AM.

What prizes are on offer?

There are prizes for place-getters in the Turkey Handicap plus a large number of random draw prizes generously provided by event sponsors including RunDNA, Chaffey Bros Wines, Steigen, City-Bay, ONE Running, and Nerd Belts.

Is this event suitable for children and families?

Absolutely. The flat 2-lap course in a safe parkland setting is ideal for families. The Turkey Handicap format is especially fun for kids and beginners, as finishing close to your predicted time — not finishing first — is the goal.
