Course Description

The Myponga Loop offers a unique trail running experience around the scenic Myponga Reservoir, located in South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula. The long course provides a rare opportunity to circumnavigate the reservoir on trails normally closed to the public, including an exclusive crossing of the dam wall whilst closed to traffic. Runners will traverse a mix of established reservoir reserve trails and restricted-access pathways, showcasing the natural beauty of this regional water catchment area. The short course utilises the well-maintained public trails of the Myponga Reservoir Reserve, whilst the kids' dash offers a fun introduction to trail running for younger participants. The courses are well-marked with plenty of aid stations, making navigation straightforward even for first-time trail runners.

Getting There

Myponga is located approximately 60km south of Adelaide via the Victor Harbor Road. From Adelaide, take Main South Road to Old Noarlunga, then follow Victor Harbor Road through Willunga. Turn onto Myponga Road and follow signs to the reservoir. The event starts at Hansen Street, Myponga. Free parking is available at the venue. Given the regional location, driving is the most practical option. Allow 70-90 minutes from Adelaide CBD. Arrive by 7:30 AM to collect your race number and warm up before the 8:00 AM start.

Weather & What to Pack

Late May in South Australia brings cooler autumn conditions, ideal for trail running. Expect temperatures between 10-17°C, with crisp mornings warming slightly by mid-morning. The region can experience morning fog near the reservoir, and there's a moderate chance of light rain. Pack layers you can shed as you warm up – a long-sleeve technical top is recommended for the start. The trails may be slightly damp or muddy after recent rain, so trail shoes with good grip are essential. Bring a light jacket for post-race, as temperatures can drop quickly. Hydration remains important despite cooler conditions.
