Course Description

Run Upper Murray is a UTMB® World Series Qualifier trail event through the farmland and native forests of the Upper Murray, starting and finishing at Thowgla Public Hall near Corryong, Victoria. The signature 33km course climbs to the summit of Mount Elliot (940m) and back, gaining 1,388m over five aid stations (8km, 15km, 20km, 25km, 30km) with a six-hour cut-off. The 16km summit out-and-back gains 735m with a four-hour cut-off, while the 9.5km climbs 440m past one aid station at 5km with a three-hour cut-off. Both the 33km and 16km are ITRA-registered UTMB® qualifiers. A 3km Kids Race (75m elevation, ages 12 and under) rounds out the day, with farmland tracks, forest trail and a technical descent off Mount Elliot.

Weather & What to Pack

September marks early spring in Victoria's high country, with cool mornings warming through the day. Expect single-digit to mid-teens Celsius at the Thowgla Valley start, cooler again on the exposed ridgelines near Mount Elliot's 940m summit, with a chance of wind or showers. Dress in layers, carry wet-weather gear and a hydration pack, and be prepared for conditions to change quickly at altitude.
