Course Description

Runners start and finish at the base of the Village Bowl, right outside the Frying Pan Inn and between the Summit Chairlift’s bottom station. The 6.71 km loop climbs 210 m, beginning with an ascent beside the tennis courts to the Aqueduct, then follows the Aqueduct Trail to the base of the Wishing Well walking track. From there you climb the track to the Frying Pan Spur, turn left up to the International Poma, and descend via the Summit and Pretty Valley roads back to Broadway. After a short stretch down Broadway, turn right onto Ory’s Trail past the water tanks, re‑join the Aqueduct, and return along the Village run to the finish. The course offers stunning High Country scenery, alpine forest, and open valley views at 1,560 m altitude.

Weather & What to Pack

December in Falls Creek is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, but alpine conditions keep daytime highs around 15 °C and night lows near 6 °C. Expect crisp, dry air with strong sunshine and occasional mountain breezes. Dress in moisture‑wicking base layers, a warm mid‑layer and a wind‑proof jacket; a hat and gloves are useful for early‑hour laps. Carry enough water and consider electrolyte drinks, as the cooler temperatures reduce sweat but hydration remains essential.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register and what are the entry fees?

Registration is online via the event page. There are four categories – One Lap Wonder, Mountain Explorer (4 laps), Midnight Master (8 laps) and The Last One Standing – with entry fees ranging from $40 to $240. Early‑bird discounts may apply; check the official website for current pricing.

When should I arrive and is there a mandatory briefing?

Marquee set‑up begins at 12:00 PM, followed by a mandatory race briefing at 4:30 PM. The race starts sharply at 5:00 PM, so plan to arrive early to allow time for check‑in and briefing.

What gear and supplies should I bring?

A basic aid station will be provided, but you should bring your own food, water (a large container is advised as a water tap is 500 m away), and any personal medical supplies. Participants doing 8 + laps can set up a 3×3 m marquee – bring weights and pegs for anchoring. Portable toilets are on site, and a single toilet is placed halfway on the course.

Are children allowed to take part?

Registered kids aged 6–12 may compete, but they must be accompanied by a registered adult companion. All categories (1 lap, 4 laps, 8 laps) have child entry options.

Is accommodation available on‑site?

Snowski apartments are the closest accommodation, located about 100 m from the start line, and participants can request a discount. Camping within the resort is not permitted; only crew may nap in the marquee area, and participants finishing after the 8‑hour option must arrange separate overnight accommodation.
