Weather & What to Pack
Townsville in June enjoys mild, dry winter conditions with average daytime temperatures around 25°C and overnight lows near 15°C. Early morning starts at 4am mean you'll begin in cooler temperatures (16-18°C), warming throughout the morning. Humidity is lower than summer months, making winter ideal for endurance events. Expect mostly sunny conditions with minimal rainfall. Despite the mild weather, proper hydration is essential due to the multi-day nature of the event. Bring layered clothing for the pre-dawn start, sun protection for later in the morning, and consider the cumulative effects of 10 consecutive days of running.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to run all 10 marathons?
No, you can enter individual marathon days or choose from the 3-day, 7-day, or full 10-day options. Each day is a separate marathon distance that you can register for independently.
What does 'self-sufficient event' mean?
While aid stations with water are provided on each loop, participants should bring their own nutrition, gels, and any specific supplies they need. The event has an 8-hour daily cut-off time and support from local running friends along the course.
Why does the race start at 4am?
The early start allows runners to complete significant distance before temperatures rise. Starting at 4am means you can finish before the midday heat, which is especially important for a 10-day consecutive marathon challenge.
Is this event recognised for records?
Yes, the Magnetic 10in10 is run on an AIMS-certified course and is recognised by Guinness World Records and the Australian 100 Club, making it eligible for official multi-day marathon achievements.
What experience do I need for this event?
This is a serious endurance challenge suited to experienced marathon runners. You should have completed multiple marathons and have specific training for consecutive-day running. The 8-hour cut-off per day allows for a walking/running combination if needed.
