About This Event
Australia's most iconic hiking challenge with teams of two or more hiking for mental health. Fundraising for Beyond Blue. Features 50km, 30km or 20km distances with checkpoints every 15km. Includes customised training program, Top Tips nights, and event-specific support.
Course Description
Coastrek Mornington Peninsula showcases Victoria's most spectacular coastal scenery across three distance options. The 50km route starts at sunrise from Cape Schanck, while the 30km begins at Point Nepean and the 20km from Sorrento, all finishing at Point Nepean. Participants traverse dramatic clifftops, coastal bush trails, wild ocean vistas and secluded bays along the rugged Mornington Peninsula coastline. The terrain includes natural bush tracks, beach sections and clifftop paths with panoramic ocean views. Checkpoints are positioned approximately every 15km providing water, snacks and facilities. This is a team hiking challenge rather than a race, encouraging participants to enjoy the journey whilst raising funds for Beyond Blue's mental health initiatives.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The Mornington Peninsula is approximately 90 minutes drive south of Melbourne via the M11 and Mornington Peninsula Freeway. Start locations vary by distance: Cape Schanck (50km), Point Nepean (30km), or Sorrento (20km). Specific parking details and shuttle arrangements will be provided closer to event day. Plan to arrive at least 30-45 minutes before your designated start time to allow for registration check-in and preparation. Public transport options are limited; carpooling with teammates is recommended.
Weather & What to Pack
Late May in Victoria brings autumn conditions with temperatures typically ranging from 9-16°C. Expect crisp mornings with the possibility of cool winds along exposed coastal sections. Weather can be changeable, so prepare for potential rain showers or sunny breaks. Layered clothing is essential - start with a light jacket that can be removed as you warm up. Coastal sections can be particularly windy. Sun protection remains important even in autumn. Hydration is crucial despite cooler temperatures. Waterproof gear is recommended given the coastal environment and seasonal variability.
