Sprint triathlon perfect for beginners and experienced athletes. 750m swim on Mooloolaba Main Beach (anti-clockwise flag-shaped course), bike up and over Alexandra Headlands (3 laps), run clockwise with scenic Sunshine Coast coastal views. Non-drafting race. Athletes receive visor/cap and bag. Double points to qualify for ITU World Triathlon Grand Final. Starts 6:15am.

Course Description

The Mooloolaba Sprint Triathlon kicks off with a 750-metre flag-shaped swim course running anti-clockwise from Mooloolaba Main Beach, featuring turns at 350 metres before returning to shore. Athletes then tackle three laps of the bike course, cycling up and over the challenging Alexandra Headlands. The race concludes with a single-lap 5km run following the coastline in a clockwise direction, showcasing some of the Sunshine Coast's most spectacular ocean views. As a non-drafting race, athletes must maintain proper spacing on the bike leg. The course perfectly balances accessibility for first-timers with competitive elements for experienced triathletes seeking a solid workout.

Getting There

The race starts at Mooloolaba Esplanade on the Sunshine Coast. Event shuttle services run from Lady Musgrave Drive, Mountain Creek from 4:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Street parking is available around the Esplanade but fills quickly on race day. Arrive early to allow time for bike racking (must be pre-booked) which opens at 5:00 AM Saturday morning. Check-in is mandatory on Friday between 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Northern Parklands.

March on the Sunshine Coast offers pleasant early autumn conditions with average temperatures ranging from 20-28°C. Expect warm, humid conditions with the 6:15 AM start providing cooler temperatures during the swim and bike legs. The sun rises around 6:00 AM, so runners will experience increasing heat. Water temperature in Mooloolaba is typically around 25°C in March. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses for the run, and ensure adequate hydration throughout the race. A race cap/visor is provided to all athletes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to check in before race day?

Yes, check-in is mandatory on Friday 13 March between 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Northern Parklands, Mooloolaba Esplanade. You must pre-book your check-in time. Athletes who don't check in will not be eligible to race.

When can I rack my bike in transition?

Bike racking must be pre-booked and is available Friday 1:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Parkyn Parade Park. Limited Saturday morning spots are available from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM for those who checked in Friday. All bikes must be racked the day before or early race morning.

What age do I need to be to compete?

Athletes must be 14 years old as at 31 December 2025. Age categories are determined by your age on 31 December 2025, following Australian Triathlon competition rules for the 2025-26 season.

Is this a drafting-legal race?

No, this is a non-drafting race. Athletes must maintain proper spacing on the bike course and cannot draft behind other competitors.

What do I receive as a participant?

All athletes receive a race visor or cap and bag. There are age group awards for male and female categories from 14-15 through to 80+. The race also offers double points toward qualifying for the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final.
