Course Description

The race launches from Catani Gardens in St Kilda, with a 300‑500m swim in the sheltered waters of Port Phillip Bay. After the swim, athletes transition to a fast‑flowing bike leg along Beach Road, which is closed to traffic from 6:30 am to 11:30 am, taking riders past iconic seaside views and the St Kilda Marina. The run finishes on the promenade, offering a flat, scenic route back to the finish line. The course is fully road‑based, well‑marked, and supported by local surf lifesavers and traffic management, providing a safe and exhilarating triathlon experience.

Getting There

The event is held at Catani Gardens in the St Kilda suburb of Melbourne. Parking and public transport options are available nearby, but details are not listed in the event information. We recommend checking the official website for the latest parking guidance and public transport routes, and arriving early to allow time for kit collection and bike check‑in.

Weather & What to Pack

April in Melbourne is autumn, with mild daytime temperatures typically ranging from 11 °C to 17 °C and a chance of light showers. Expect cooler breezes off the bay, so dress in layers and consider a wetsuit for the swim if you prefer extra warmth. Stay hydrated, but a light water bottle should be sufficient for the cooler conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does registration close and are there any fee increases?

Registrations close at 4 pm on Friday 9 April 2027. Entry fees increase by $10 for all distances at 12 pm on the same day. Late registrations after 12 pm on Wednesday 7 April incur a $10 late fee.

Do I need a wetsuit for the swim?

Wetsuits are optional for all distances. Approximately 75% of sprint and Olympic participants wear wetsuits, but you may choose to race without one if water temperatures feel comfortable.

What are the road closures and bike check‑in times?

Beach Road is closed from 6:30 am to 11:30 am (St Kilda St to Kerferd Rd). Bike check‑in opens at 5:30 am for the early distances and at 6:45 am for the later ones. Arrive early to complete bike inspection.

What is the refund or transfer policy?

The 2XU Triathlon Series has a no‑refund policy. Transfers between races are possible before e‑tickets are sent (Thursday of race week) with approval; after that, only extreme circumstances with a medical certificate are considered.

Is the event suitable for first‑time triathletes?

Yes. The Fun Tri (300 m swim / 13 km bike / 3 km run) and Sprint distances are designed for beginners, and the event provides a pre‑race briefing at the swim start.
