About This Event
Perth Trail Series Jolly Jumbuck through the State Equestrian Centre trails at Bells Rapids. Multiple distances including 6km, 14km and 20km courses over Jumbuck Hill and the iconic Bells Rapids bridge.
Course Description
The Jolly Jumbuck takes runners through the scenic trails of the State Equestrian Centre at Bells Rapids, featuring the challenging climb up Jumbuck Hill and the iconic Bells Rapids bridge crossing. The courses wind through natural bushland, past billabongs, and along shared equestrian trails, offering a genuine Western Australian winter trail running experience. Black and Blue course runners tackle the technical single track on Jumbuck Hill, whilst all distances feature the memorable bridge crossing with views over the rapids. The courses are well-marked with blue flagging tape and PTS arrows, with multiple distance options allowing runners to drop down to shorter courses if desired. This is a true trail adventure combining natural beauty with technical challenges.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Enter 'State Equestrian Centre 303 Cathedral Avenue Brigadoon WA' into your GPS. Drive past the bitumen car park and follow the driveway along the right side of the building, where PTS crew will direct you to the event parking area. Park tightly to accommodate all participants. Carpooling is strongly encouraged through the Perth Trail Series social group. Arrive early as check-in closes at 7:50 AM and all runners must attend the 8:00 AM race briefing. The venue is only accessible on event day.
Weather & What to Pack
Late May in Western Australia brings mild winter conditions perfect for trail running. Expect temperatures between 10-18°C, with cool mornings warming slightly by mid-morning. The 7:00 AM start means crisp conditions at the beginning, so bring a light layer for the warm-up. Perth winters are generally dry with low humidity, though occasional morning dew can make trails slightly damp. The bridge crossing can be breezy. Carry your mandatory 500ml minimum hydration as required, dress in layers you can shed, and consider sun protection as winter sun can still be strong in Western Australia.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring on race day?
You MUST bring a hydration system (handheld bottle, waist belt, or pack) holding minimum 500ml to receive your race bib at check-in. This is mandatory for all course distances. Also bring your registration confirmation, and consider cash or card for coffee, post-race food, and merchandise.
Can I use headphones during the race?
Headphone use is strongly discouraged for safety reasons due to other trail users. You must remove headphones from the start line until you're off the bridge, and again when approaching the bridge until the finish gantry, to ensure awareness of other park users and horses on shared trails.
What if I can't complete my registered course distance?
Drop-down options are encouraged at PTS events! Black course runners can drop to Blue at the course intersection, and Blue can drop to Green. Simply follow the appropriate coloured arrows and inform the Timing Crew at the finish. It's all about having fun on the trails.
Are dogs allowed at the event?
Well-behaved dogs are permitted at the start/finish area but not on the course. You're welcome to bring your dog if someone can stay with them while you're out running the trails.
When are presentations and can I leave early?
Presentations start at different times for each course: Green at 9:20 AM, Blue and Black at 10:00 AM. Perth Trail Series waits until most participants finish before presenting awards. You must be present to collect any prizes - they cannot be posted later.
