Course Description

The Kalbarri Gorge Adventure Run is an unforgettable journey through one of Western Australia's most spectacular gorge systems. Starting inside Kalbarri National Park, runners descend via abseil (20m for Ultra, 5m for other distances) and ladder systems to reach the stunning riverbed below. The course follows the gorge upstream through crystal-clear pools and river-worn red rock ledges, with short swims required on the 4km courses. Towering red cliffs create breathtaking reflections in the water as you navigate the dramatic landscape. The Ultra 8km extends further upstream before both distances return via the same scenic route, finishing with a challenging ascent back up the narrow gully to the National Park track above.

Arrive early for the mandatory race briefing at 6:30 AM. Race pack pickup is available Friday evening at Kalbarri Foreshore (5:30-7:00 PM) or Saturday morning at the race carpark from 6:30 AM.

Weather & What to Pack

Late May in Kalbarri brings mild autumn conditions with average daytime temperatures ranging from 15-23°C. Mornings start cool, particularly inside the shaded gorge where temperatures can be significantly lower. The weather is generally dry with low humidity, though occasional rain showers are possible. Despite the cooler season, hydration remains crucial due to the physical demands of abseiling and rock scrambling. Dress in layers you can adjust, wear sun protection for exposed sections, and bring a waterproof bag for your camera to capture those stunning gorge reflections while protecting your gear during swims.
