Course Description

The race starts at Jayes Bridge, where paddlers launch into a 7 km canoe leg winding along the Blackwood River. Riders then tackle a 16 km horse trek across private farmland, before a 1 km river swim. Cyclists cover 37 km of mixed bush tracks and quiet country roads, finishing with a 10.5 km run that ends at the Bridgetown Sports Ground. The course showcases river scenery, rolling hills and open farmland, delivering both technical sections and rewarding vistas.

Getting There

From Perth, drive south on the Great Southern Highway (A1) for ~250 km to Boyup Brook, then follow signs to Jayes Bridge. Parking is available at the bridge carpark (free). Public transport is limited; the nearest bus stop is in Bridgetown. Aim to arrive at least one hour before the start to collect your bib and gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the relay or triathlon?

Register online via the event website. Team managers create a team, pay the entry fee, and share the team code with members. Solo athletes can sign up as an ‘Iron Person’ for either the five‑leg relay or the triathlon.

Can I join a five‑leg team if I don’t have a horse rider?

Yes. The organisers can help match you with a horse rider if you email info@blackwoodrelay.com.au after registering your interest.

What equipment do I need for the canoe and horse legs?

A personal life jacket is required for the canoe leg. For the horse leg, participants must provide their own riding helmet and appropriate riding boots; the horse is supplied by the event.

Is there a cut‑off time for each leg?

There are no strict cut‑off times for individual legs, but the overall race must be completed before the event closes in the late afternoon. Teams should aim to stay on schedule to ensure safety and road closures.

What support is provided on race day?

Aid stations with water, sports drinks and basic medical support are positioned at the end of each leg. A mobile crew follows the bike leg, and volunteers are on hand at the finish line.
