About This Event
A classic winter half marathon winding 21.1km around Griffith's iconic Scenic Hill. Run solo or pair up with a mate in the team relay option. Organised by the Griffith Feral Joggers, this friendly regional event finishes with prizes and medallions for all finishers.
Course Description
The Half on the Hill takes runners on a scenic 21.1km loop around Griffith's famous Scenic Hill, a prominent landmark rising above the Riverina plains. The course offers sweeping views over the city, surrounding orchards, and the patchwork irrigation channels that define this part of regional New South Wales. Expect a mix of road and paved surfaces with rolling undulation as the route circumnavigates the hill. The June timing means cool, crisp winter conditions — ideal for running — with typically clear skies and low humidity. It's a well-organised community event with a warm regional atmosphere that keeps runners coming back year after year.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The race starts on Doolan Crescent at the base of Scenic Hill in Griffith. Griffith is approximately 570km south-west of Sydney via the Mid Western and Sturt Highways. Street parking is available along Doolan Crescent and surrounding streets near Scenic Hill. No public transport serves the start line — most competitors drive or carpool. Aim to arrive by 8:30 AM to allow time before the mandatory 8:45 AM race briefing.
Weather & What to Pack
Late June in Griffith falls squarely in the Riverina winter. Expect cold starts with temperatures around 3–7°C at race time, climbing to 14–16°C by mid-morning. Conditions are typically dry and clear with low humidity — excellent running weather once you warm up. Dress in removable layers: a lightweight jacket or long-sleeve base layer for the start that you can tie around your waist mid-race. Frost is possible overnight, so warm up thoroughly before the briefing. Hydration is still important despite the cool weather.
