Weather & What to Pack

Late March in Barwon Heads brings mild to warm autumn conditions, with temperatures typically ranging from 14°C to 22°C. Morning starts can be fresh and breezy off Port Phillip Bay, so a light layer for the warm-up is handy. Sun protection is still recommended — apply sunscreen before you head out. Stay hydrated, particularly if running the 8km on soft sand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I collect my race bib?

Bibs are collected on the morning of the event at the official starting area near Jetty Road, Barwon Heads. The exact location will be confirmed and shared in the weeks leading up to race day. Arrive early to allow time for collection and warm-up before your wave starts.

Is the course suitable for prams and young children?

Yes! The event is family-friendly and welcomes participants pushing prams. Note that approximately 1.5km of the course runs on soft sand between Barwon Heads Bridge and Ocean Grove, which can be challenging with a pram. If you have specific access or support needs, contact levi@bellarineproperty.com.au to discuss suitable options.

Are there prizes and medals?

Medals are awarded to place-getters in the 4km and 8km events across male and female categories, plus cash prizes for top finishers. All children participating receive a ribbon, with special prizes for the top boy and girl. It's a celebration for every finisher, not just the fast ones.

What should I wear for a beach and road run?

Wear comfortable running shoes you don't mind getting sandy. Trail or hybrid shoes with grip can help on the sand sections. Dress in light, breathable layers suitable for a cool coastal morning that warms up as the sun rises. Sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses) is recommended for the 8km.

Does the event support any community cause?

Yes — the Sheepwash Classic proudly supports the local Barwon Heads primary school. Every registration contributes directly to the school community, so your entry fee does double duty: getting you moving and giving back to local kids.
