June in Cairns brings ideal racing conditions with warm, dry winter weather. Expect daytime temperatures between 17-26°C with low humidity and minimal rainfall - perfect for young athletes. Mornings can be fresh, so bring warm layers for pre-race, but sunshine typically warms things up by race start. The Esplanade Lagoon water temperature remains comfortable year-round at approximately 24°C. Apply sunscreen generously as the tropical sun is strong even in winter. Light, breathable race kit is recommended, and ensure children have water bottles for post-race hydration.
