Course Description
The Straddie Salute Triathlon Festival showcases one of Australia's most spectacular multisport settings on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah). Trail runs wind through native bushland with coastal views, whilst the triathlons feature pristine ocean swims at Home Beach, challenging bike courses that traverse the island's unique terrain, and runs through Point Lookout. The off-road triathlon offers technical trails and sand sections for adventurous athletes, while the on-road option provides a faster, smoother course. Ocean swims take advantage of the island's protected beaches, offering clear waters and stunning surroundings. All events are based at Point Lookout Oval, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere with the community.
Quick Facts
Getting There
North Stradbroke Island is accessed via ferry from Cleveland (mainland Brisbane). The Stradbroke Ferries vehicle and passenger service runs regularly from Cleveland to Dunwich, followed by a 20-minute drive to Point Lookout. Book ferry tickets in advance during event weekend. Parking is available at Point Lookout Oval and surrounding streets. For ocean swims, Home Beach is a short distance from the oval. Arrive early on race day as ferry capacity is limited and roads close for the event.
Weather & What to Pack
May in North Stradbroke Island brings comfortable autumn conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 17-24°C. Mornings can be crisp, particularly for early trail run starts, so bring layers you can remove. The island's coastal location means occasional sea breezes, which can be refreshing during the run but may affect ocean swim conditions. UV levels remain moderate to high, so apply sunscreen even on cloudy days. Humidity is generally lower than summer months. Pack a light jacket for pre-race and post-race, and ensure adequate hydration throughout the event despite the milder temperatures.
