Course Description

The Straddie Salute offers two flagship courses. The off‑road triathlon starts with a 750 m ocean swim at Home Beach, followed by a 15 km bike ride on quiet island roads and a 8 km trail run through native bushland around Point Lookout Oval. The on‑road Straddie Pure adds a longer 25 km bike leg on sealed roads before the same 8 km run. Scenic coastal views, rolling dunes and lush forest paths make each leg both beautiful and challenging, while shorter adventure runs and kids’ aquathlon provide accessible options for newcomers.

Getting There

The event is based at Point Lookout Oval and Home Beach on North Stradbroke Island. Most participants arrive via the Sealink ferry from Cleveland to Dunwich (approximately 45 minutes). Once on the island, follow local signage to the Point Lookout village and the oval. For parking, shuttle services and detailed transport options, please check the official website or contact the organisers.

Weather & What to Pack

May is autumn in Queensland, bringing mild daytime temperatures of 18‑24 °C and cooler evenings around 12‑16 °C. Humidity is moderate and sunshine is common, though a light breeze off the ocean is typical. Dress in layers, wear a wetsuit only if water is below 24.6 °C, and stay hydrated with water and electrolytes throughout the race.

When do official entries close?

Official entries close the Friday before the event unless the race sells out earlier. Check the event website for the exact closing date.

Do I need a One Day Membership (ODM)?

Yes. An ODM is automatically added to your entry if you do not hold an AusTriathlon membership. Team entries only need one ODM unless all members are annual AT members.

What gear is mandatory?

A helmet is compulsory for all participants. Swims may require a wetsuit if water temperature is below 24.6 °C. No music devices or earphones are allowed during the race. Bikes must be in safe working condition; mountain bikes are permitted on the off‑road course.

What is the refund policy if I need to withdraw?

Withdrawals 45 days or more before the event receive an 80 % refund (or 100 % credit). Withdrawals 14‑44 days out receive a 50 % refund (or 100 % credit). No refund is given for withdrawals 13 days or less, or within 48 hours of the event. Refunds apply only to entry fees.

How can I get to the venue and where should I park?

Travel to North Stradbroke Island via the Sealink ferry from Cleveland to Dunwich. Once on the island, follow signs to Point Lookout Oval and Home Beach. For specific parking locations, shuttle bus schedules and any required permits, refer to the official event website.
