Course Description

The Bargara Sprint Triathlon offers a stunning tropical course along Queensland's Coral Coast. Athletes dive into crystal-clear ocean waters at Crawford Park for the swim leg before tackling closed-road cycling along the scenic Bargara foreshore. The coastal run provides breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, with a flat to gently undulating course perfect for enjoying the beachside atmosphere. Junior participants benefit from scaled distances appropriate to their age groups, with Hatchlings starting in the shallows and progressively longer courses for older age groups. The Super Sprint and full Sprint distances cater to teenagers and adults seeking a competitive yet achievable challenge in this picturesque coastal setting.

Ample street parking is available along the foreshore and surrounding residential streets - arrive early to secure a spot close to transition. Weather & What to Pack

May in Bargara brings ideal racing conditions with mild autumn weather. Expect morning temperatures between 15-20°C, warming to 24-26°C by mid-morning. The tropical Queensland climate means moderate humidity even in cooler months, so hydration remains important. Ocean water temperatures typically sit around 22-24°C - comfortable for most athletes without wetsuits, though they're permitted. Sunrise occurs around 6:15 AM, providing beautiful lighting for the early wave starts. Pack sunscreen as UV levels remain moderate to high year-round in Queensland.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I participate as part of a team?

Yes! The Sprint Triathlon allows mixed teams where members can complete individual legs. There's also a Super Sprint Relay for teams of 2, where each person completes all three legs (400m swim/10km bike/2.5km run).

What equipment do I need?

You'll need a roadworthy bike, helmet (mandatory), running shoes, and swim gear. Wetsuits are permitted but optional in May water temperatures. Transition bags and a towel are recommended. Race numbers and timing chips will be provided on race day.

Are there events for children?

Absolutely! There are four junior categories: Hatchlings (2-7yrs), Milbis (7-9yrs), Turtles (10-12yrs), and All Abilities (2-14yrs). Junior races start at 9:00 AM after the adult bike course is clear. Kids receive total times rather than split times.

When does transition open and close?

Transition opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 6:45 AM. You must have your bike racked and be ready before this time. First wave starts at 7:00 AM, so plan to arrive no later than 6:00 AM.

Is this event suitable for first-time triathletes?

Yes! The Bargara Triathlon Club promotes a friendly, participation-focused atmosphere. The Super Sprint distance (400m/10km/2.5km) is perfect for beginners, and the closed-road cycling provides a safe racing environment. Volunteers are experienced and supportive.
