About This Event
West Met XC Series Race 12 offers a family‑friendly cross‑country experience at Prospect Reservoir. With 2 km, 4 km and 6 km routes, runners of all ages can enjoy the park’s scenic trails and prepare for the NSW Championships.
Course Description
The race takes place on the mixed‑terrain loops around Prospect Reservoir. Runners will navigate grassed paths, compacted dirt tracks and gentle undulating hills that hug the water’s edge. The course is well‑marked, with a few technical sections through native bush and occasional boardwalks over wet ground. Spectators can watch from the main picnic area, while participants benefit from fresh air and views of the reservoir’s shoreline. The layout is designed to challenge stamina yet remain accessible for all skill levels.

Getting There
From Sydney CBD, take the M4 then M2 towards Prospect and follow signs to Prospect Reservoir car park (free parking). Public transport options include a train to Prospect Station and a connecting bus to the reserve. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your chosen start time to collect your bib and warm‑up.

July is winter in Australia. Expect cool temperatures between 5–15 °C with a chance of light rain and moderate humidity. Dress in layers – a moisture‑wicking base, a warm mid‑layer and a wind‑proof jacket. Bring a hat and gloves for early morning chill, and stay hydrated even in cooler weather.

How do I register for the race?
Registration is on‑the‑day at the venue. Arrive early, bring a photo ID and a signed waiver if you’re a community athlete. Club members can also pre‑register online through their club’s portal.
Can non‑club members compete?
Yes. The event welcomes community athletes and Little Athletics participants, provided they are covered by Athletics NSW personal accident insurance.
What should I wear and bring?
Trail running shoes with good grip, breathable layers, a hat, gloves and a water bottle. A race bib, timing chip (if supplied) and a valid ID are required.
Are there age divisions?
Competitors are grouped by age: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 20, Seniors 20‑29, Pre‑Vets 30‑39, and Masters 40+ in five‑year brackets.
Can I run more than one distance on the same day?
You may enter multiple events, but only one distance can be nominated for series points. All finishes count toward your personal record.
