Course Description

The walk begins at the National Film & Sound Archives on the picturesque Parkes campus, then follows a flat, paved circuit around Lake Burley Griffin. Participants will pass iconic landmarks such as the Commonwealth Bridge, the National Library and the vibrant waterfront promenade. The route is largely traffic‑free, with well‑marked signage and occasional shaded parkland sections. Gentle undulations near the lake’s shoreline add a touch of variety, but the overall terrain remains easy on the joints, making it ideal for walkers of all abilities. The finish returns to the Archives, where a celebration awaits.

Getting There

The National Film & Sound Archives is on Parkes, just a short walk from the lake’s north shore. From Canberra’s city centre, take the ACTION bus (routes 30/31) to the ‘National Archives’ stop – a 5‑minute walk. Car drivers can access the venue via Commonwealth Avenue; free on‑site parking is available in the adjacent lot (limited spaces). Arrive at least 30 minutes early to collect your bib and locate the start area.
