About This Event
An ANZAC Day relay on the Nundah Criterium Circuit where teams of 1–5 run 1.2km laps for 90 minutes. A family-friendly event in its ninth year, with a dedicated 45-minute Active Kids relay for ages 7 and up.
Course Description
The Criterium Relay is run on the Nundah Criterium Circuit, a smooth, flat 1.2km sealed loop in Brisbane's northern suburbs. Originally designed for cycling criteriums, the circuit provides a fast, spectator-friendly route with no hills or technical sections. Teams exchange runners in the designated start/finish zone, each completing full laps until time expires. A single water station is positioned on the circuit. The flat, predictable course suits runners of all abilities and makes it easy for spectators to follow the action from a central location. With team tents lining the infield, the event has a festive, social atmosphere that's as much about community as competition — lap after lap under the late-afternoon ANZAC Day sun.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The Nundah Criterium Circuit is on Hedley Ave, Nundah, close to the Gateway Motorway in Brisbane's northern suburbs. Street parking is available on Hedley Ave and surrounding streets. By public transport, take the Shorncliffe line to Nundah Station — the circuit is approximately a 10-minute walk. Arrive by 2:00 PM to allow time to set up your team tent before the kids' relay begins.
Weather & What to Pack
Late April in Brisbane typically brings pleasant autumn conditions — warm and mostly sunny with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 25°C. Humidity is noticeably lower than summer, making for comfortable running weather. Afternoon breezes are common. Wear lightweight, breathable clothing and bring sunscreen, as the open circuit offers little shade. Stay well hydrated; a water station is provided on course but teams are encouraged to bring additional drinks to their tent.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the relay format work?
Each team runs as many 1.2km laps as possible within the time limit — 90 minutes for adults, 45 minutes for Active Kids. Only one runner from each team may be on the course at a time. Changeovers happen in the start/finish area only. Prizes go to the team covering the longest total distance in each category.
What team sizes and categories are available?
Adults can enter as an individual, duo, or team of 3–5 in Male, Female, Mixed, or Over-50 categories. Mixed teams require at least two female runners. Active Kids teams consist of exactly three members, with categories for under 10, under 13, and under 18. Minimum age for Active Kids is 7 years.
Can we bring a tent, and what's included in the entry fee?
Yes — entry includes a 6m x 3m tent site at the circuit. Teams are welcome to bring their own tent and decorations. There's even a novelty prize for the most inspirational tent decoration, so get creative! Tents are not provided by the organisers.
Can Active Kids register on the day?
Yes. Entries for the Active Kids relay are accepted at the event site from 1:30 PM to 2:15 PM for the 2:30 PM start. The cost is $60 per team of three. Adult registrations are handled online in advance — check the official website for the 2026 registration link.
What charity or cause does the event support?
The Criterium Relay has a fundraising component — check the official website (therelays.com.au) for details on the 2026 supported charity and how your participation contributes.
