Public transport options are limited; driving is recommended.

Weather & What to Pack

July in the Clare Valley brings cool to cold winter conditions, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 8-14°C. Morning starts can be particularly chilly, often near or below freezing, with frost common. The region experiences moderate rainfall during winter months, so be prepared for potentially wet conditions. Dress in layers with moisture-wicking base layers, and bring a waterproof jacket. The 50km ultra requires mandatory gear including a space blanket, whistle, and thermal base layer if conditions deteriorate. Start hydrated despite the cold, as trail running at altitude still requires proper fluid intake.

Frequently Asked Questions

What mandatory gear do I need for the 50km?

All 50km runners must carry a space blanket, whistle, mobile phone, and capacity to carry minimum 1L of fluids (starting with at least 500ml). If weather turns bad, you'll also need a waterproof jacket, thermal base layer (top), and headwear (cap, beanie, or buff). Mandatory gear requirements will be confirmed via email during race week. Adelaide Trail Runners will have emergency items for sale at the event.

Can I collect my bib on race day?

Yes, bibs can be collected on race morning at Clare Showgrounds if you can't make the Friday evening collection. However, the pre-race dinner and bib collection at Sevenhill Hotel (5:30-7:30pm Friday) is recommended for a relaxed start. Last-minute entries are accepted Friday night but NOT on race day.

Are drop bags and crew support allowed?

Yes, 50km runners can use drop bags which must be clearly marked with your name and bib number. Deliver them at Friday bib collection or race morning. Drop bags will be available at Sevenhill Hotel (27.5km mark). Supporters may meet you at any aid station with supplies, but not elsewhere on course. Buddy runners are not permitted.

What's provided at aid stations?

Aid stations offer water, Huma electrolyte drink, Coke, lollies, chips, and muesli bars. The 50km has eight aid stations, 25km has three, and 10km has one. You must provide your own drinking vessel. Aid station locations and distances are detailed on the course maps available on the race website.

What are the cut-off times?

50km runners have until 4:00pm (8hrs 45mins total, approximately 10:30min/km pace). The 25km cut-off is 2:00pm (4hrs 45mins, approximately 11min/km). The 10km run and hike both have a 2:00pm cut-off (3hrs 30mins, approximately 21min/km). These generous times accommodate walkers and hikers in the 10km category.
