About This Event
Traralgon Harriers Marathon & Running Festival on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail. Known as the friendliest marathon in the country, starting and finishing at Glengarry Football Club. Entry includes lunch and finisher medal.
Course Description
The Traralgon Marathon and Running Festival takes runners on a journey through the picturesque Gippsland Plains, utilising the historic Gippsland Plains Rail Trail. All distances start and finish at the Glengarry Football and Netball Club, providing a welcoming community atmosphere. The rail trail offers a relatively flat, well-marked course through scenic rural Victoria, making it an ideal choice for both seasoned marathoners chasing personal bests and first-timers seeking a supportive environment. The out-and-back format allows runners to see fellow participants throughout their journey, contributing to the event's reputation as 'the friendliest marathon in the country'. The course's gentle gradients and country views make for an enjoyable running experience across all distances.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The event is held at Glengarry Football and Netball Club on Cairnbrook Road, Glengarry, approximately 10km from Traralgon. Parking assistants will be on-site to direct traffic on race day. No parking is permitted on Cairnbrook Road or the service road beside the primary school, so carpooling is strongly recommended. Arrive early to allow time for parking and bib collection from 7:00 AM on race morning. Saturday pre-event bib pick-up is also available from 2-4 PM near the Traralgon Cenotaph on Kay Street.
Weather & What to Pack
Mid-June in Gippsland typically brings cool to mild conditions, with morning temperatures ranging from 5-12°C. Expect possible morning fog or drizzle, though conditions often clear by mid-morning. The cooler temperatures are ideal for distance running, but be prepared for variable weather. Layer your clothing and consider arm warmers or a light jacket for the start. Given the rail trail setting, some wind exposure is possible. Stay hydrated despite the cooler conditions, as effort levels remain high. Check the forecast in the days leading up to the event and adjust your gear accordingly.
