Course Description

The Bravehearts 777 Marathon in Hobart offers runners four distance options starting from the scenic Bellerive Beach Park. The course showcases Tasmania's capital with waterfront views across the Derwent River and surrounding parklands. Runners can choose between 7km, 14km, half marathon, or full marathon distances, all part of the iconic 777 national tour that visits seven Australian cities in seven consecutive days. The relatively flat terrain along the eastern shore makes it accessible for various fitness levels, whilst the coastal setting provides a picturesque backdrop. Whether you're a local state runner tackling a single leg or part of the national team completing all seven marathons, this course combines community spirit with the important cause of child protection awareness.

Weather & What to Pack

Early July brings winter conditions to Hobart with average temperatures ranging from 5-12°C. Expect cool to cold weather, potentially with frost in the early morning and possible light rain or wind off the Derwent River. Dress in layers with moisture-wicking base layers, long sleeves, and consider gloves and a beanie for the start. The coastal location can increase wind chill, so windproof outer layers are recommended. Despite winter conditions, proper warm-up and pacing will help you stay comfortable throughout your chosen distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does registration open for the 2026 Hobart leg?

Registration for state runners (single leg participants) opens in January 2026. National team spots for runners completing all 7 marathons in 7 days are already filled for 2026. Visit the dedicated 777 Marathon website for exact registration dates and pricing.

What's the difference between national runners and state runners?

National runners join the 777 National Team and complete all 7 marathons in 7 consecutive days across 7 Australian cities, with travel and accommodation included. State runners participate in just one leg in their closest city, choosing from 7km, 14km, 21.1km, or 42.2km distances.

Can I participate virtually instead?

Yes! The 777 Virtual Challenge allows you to participate from anywhere. Virtual registration is free of charge, and you can complete your chosen distance on your own schedule whilst still supporting Bravehearts' vital child protection work.

What should I wear for a winter race in Hobart?

Layer up for winter conditions - start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add a long-sleeve running top, and consider a lightweight windproof jacket. Gloves and a beanie are recommended for the start. You may warm up during the run, so choose layers you can manage or tie around your waist if needed.

Where do the funds raised go?

All funds support Bravehearts, Australia's leading child protection organisation dedicated to preventing and treating child sexual abuse. Your participation helps fund education programs, support services for children and families, and advocacy for policy reform.
